Are local festivals losing their authenticity when modernized for tourism?
Local festivals are losing their authenticity when city councils invite food trucks and EDM stages to 'modernize' them for tourism. Last summer my hometown's harvest fair swapped the apple-bobbing booth for a sponsored VR experience, and half the old-timers just stood around confused. But maybe I'm gatekeeping tradition — doesn't every generation reinvent celebrations? If visitors happily pay 12 dollars for a charcuterie cone, who am I to say the festival is worse?
