I've been reading about the sunk cost fallacy and how it affects our everyday decisions, from sticking with a failing relationship to continuing a course we hate just because we've already invested time or money. The classic example is the person who stays in a job they dislike to avoid wasting their three years of training. But could this often-mocked behavior actually be a rational response to social expectations and fear of regret, rather than a cognitive error? Is it fair to say that the sunk cost fallacy is always a mental trap that we should actively resist?
