Can air travel become truly sustainable, or is it just greenwashing?
Is the future of air travel truly sustainable, or are we just greenwashing our way to more emissions? The aviation industry accounts for about 2.5% of global CO2 emissions, and while sustainable aviation fuels sound promising, they represent less than 0.1% of current fuel use. I've flown for years and noticed that few airlines are transparent about their carbon offset programs—some even double-count the same offsets. Given that passenger numbers are projected to double by 2040, can we realistically cut emissions without drastically reducing flights, or will technological breakthroughs save us?
