Is Streaming Worth Unfair Artist Compensation?
Streaming services pay artists fractions of a cent per play, yet they keep raising subscription prices. I recently calculated that my favorite indie band would need over a million streams on Spotify just to earn what a single album sale used to bring them. Major labels benefit from this model while most musicians struggle to make a living. Is it time to abandon streaming as the primary way we support music, or is the convenience worth the unfair compensation?
