I've been teaching online for three years now, and I notice my students' engagement drops significantly after the first twenty minutes of a video lecture. We moved everything to Zoom during the pandemic, but now that campuses are open again, I'm wondering if we're keeping remote learning for the wrong reasons. Some of my colleagues swear by the flexibility it offers, especially for working adults, yet I see so many students struggling with motivation and isolation at home. Is online learning actually as effective as in-person classes, or are we just accepting a poorer experience because it's convenient for us as institutions?
