Is constant conflict necessary for a lasting marriage?
My parents have been married for 41 years, and they bicker about the same things they did in their twenties—dishes, money, whose family to visit for Tet. I used to think that was a sign of a weak marriage, but now I realize they've built a life around those little conflicts. My own three-year relationship ended because we avoided every disagreement, thinking that was the healthy way. So I believe that a couple who never fights is either lying or storing up resentment that will explode later. Would you say that constant, low-level conflict is actually a necessary ingredient for a lasting marriage, or is that just an excuse for people who don't have the guts to leave?
