Is Comfortable Silence in Marriage a Sign of Settling or Growth?
I've been with my partner for seven years, married for three, and we're both in our early thirties with demanding careers. Lately, I catch myself wondering if we're actually compatible long-term or just used to each other. We rarely argue, but we also rarely have deep conversations anymore — we're more like roommates who share a mortgage and a dog. I know every relationship hits a lull, but at what point is it just settling instead of growing together? Is there a real way to measure whether a marriage is still "working," or does every couple just white-knuckle through the comfortable silence hoping it's normal?
