Abstract expressionism gets too much credit for being 'revolutionary' when much of it is just chaotic splatters without real technique. I visited the MoMA last year and stood in front of a Rothko for ten minutes, wondering what I was missing. The art world praises these works because they're backed by wealthy collectors and critical theory, not because they communicate something meaningful to the average viewer. Should we really value a canvas of black rectangles over a skillfully painted landscape?
