Should we stop praising personal green actions and focus only on systemic change?
Individual actions like recycling and avoiding plastic straws get all the attention, but they barely move the needle on emissions. My own household cut waste by 40% last year, yet our carbon footprint only dropped 6% because most of it comes from heating and driving. Is that small gain worth the moral comfort, or should we stop praising personal virtue and put every dollar into systemic change like carbon pricing and grid decarbonization? I lean toward the latter, but I also worry that dismissing personal action lets people off the hook entirely, so I'm genuinely split on whether this shift in focus is a net win.
