Is constant stimulation actually harming our children's ability to focus and create?
I've watched my own kids spend hours on tablets, and I still wonder if our obsession with keeping children constantly stimulated is actually harming their ability to focus and create. Playtime that isn't structured by adults or screens seems to be disappearing, and that's where kids learn to solve their own problems and negotiate with each other. Research from the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that unstructured play is critical for cognitive development, yet we keep filling their schedules with activities. Maybe the real threat isn't boredom itself but our fear of it, and our kids are losing more than they gain from this constant busyness. Wouldn't it be better to let them have more downtime, even if it means they occasionally complain about being bored?
