I've taught high school biology for nine years, and I'm convinced that requiring students to memorize the Krebs cycle by heart is a complete waste of class time. With a phone in their pocket, they can look up any enzyme or intermediate in seconds, so why drill facts that will be forgotten a week after the final exam? Maybe the real skill we should be teaching is how to evalute information critically, not how to store it. But then again, I wonder if some foundational knowledge is necessary to even ask the right questions in the first place.
