I've shot professionally for seven years, and I'm convinced that gear really does matter more than skill for most photographers. A $3000 lens on a beginner's camera will consistently beat a $300 lens on a pro body in low light and sharpness. We romanticize the 'eye' but clients and contests judge pixels, not intent.
