Is cultural borrowing theft or appreciation?
I've seen countless 'cultural appropriation' debates, and they always seem to boil down to whether borrowing from other cultures is theft or appreciation. But what really bothers me is when the loudest voices come from outsiders, not from the actual communities being borrowed from. So I ask: should we stop policing who gets to wear or cook or celebrate what, and instead trust that culture has always been shared and remixed?
