Do free returns unfairly burden small e-commerce businesses?
I've run an online store for six years, and I think free returns are quietly destroying small e-commerce businesses. While big platforms can absorb the cost, a small shop often loses 20-30% of its margin on a single returned item, and that's before the item is unsellable. Customers now treat clothes like a try-on service, and the environmental waste from shipping back and forth is massive—so maybe those free-return policies are good for shoppers but bad for everyone else in the long run. Is the convenience really worth shifting that burden onto small retailers and the planet?
