Are annual performance reviews obsolete for remote teams?
I've managed remote teams for four years and noticed that annual performance reviews feel increasingly outdated when you're communicating over Slack and video calls. The feedback cycle is too slow, and employees often get blindsided by issues that were never raised in real time. Maybe it's time to ditch the yearly ritual entirely and rely on continuous check-ins, but I'm not sure if formal evaluations still serve a purpose for promotions. Do we really need that structured documentation, or is it just a bureaucratic crutch that slows down development?
