Outdoor cats kill billions of birds and small mammals annually, and they live shorter, riskier lives full of fights and disease. But then I see my neighbor's cat sunbathing on the fence, clearly content, and I wonder if we're projecting our own fears onto them. Should we prioritize wildlife and cat safety over an animal's freedom to roam?
