Should platforms be required to verify users' real identities before allowing them to post anything controversial? I'm not talking about full doxing, just a basic ID check that would make people think twice before typing something vicious. The counterargument is that anonymity protects whistleblowers and people in repressive regimes, and that's a real cost. But for the average user sharing opinions about politics or sports, anonymity seems to mainly enable bullying and mob mentality. Would you trade a bit of privacy to reduce the worst of the abuse, or is that a slippery slope we shouldn't touch?
