Should offside be scrapped in youth soccer?
I've coached youth soccer for seven years, and I'm convinced that the offside rule should be scrapped at the amateur level. Kids spend more time watching for the linesman than actually playing, and half the parents can't even explain the rule correctly—I've seen countless arguments over marginal calls that kill the game's flow. In recreational leagues, the rule does nothing to encourage skill development; it just rewards defenders who stand still. Soccer is supposed to be about creativity and movement, and I think removing offside would make the game more fun and accessible for young players.
