Is a calorie just a calorie, or does food source matter more?
I've been tracking my blood sugar with a continuous glucose monitor for three months, and the data from my own body suggests that not all calories are equal—a 200-calorie soda spikes my glucose far more than 200 calories of almonds. But my endocrinologist insists that for weight loss, total calories are what matter, and that obsessing over insulin response can lead to disordered eating. Who is right? I believe that calorie counting is outdated and that we should focus on food quality and metabolic response instead of just numbers. Do you think a calorie is just a calorie, or is the source more important than the total?
