I've been tracking my anxiety levels for two years, and every time I scroll through social media for more than twenty minutes, I feel noticeably worse. Yesterday I counted that I switched between Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok eight times before I even finished my coffee. Some researchers say the algorithms keep us engaged because they trigger our brain's reward system, but I'm convinced they're deliberately amplifying our insecurities to keep us hooked. Isn't it time we treat social media addiction as seriously as we treat smoking or alcohol abuse?
