Do mental health apps like Calm really reduce anxiety or just provide a placebo effect?
I've been thinking about whether mental health apps like Headspace and Calm actually reduce anxiety or just give us a false sense of progress. I used one daily for three months during a stressful period at work, and while the guided sessions felt soothing, I'm not sure my baseline anxiety changed much. The subscriptions are pricey too, around $70 a year, which makes me wonder if we're paying for relief or just a digital placebo. Do these tools genuinely replace therapy or other professional help, or are we fooling ourselves into thinking a 10-minute breathing exercise can fix deeper issues?
