Can you preserve your original culture while adapting to a new one?
I've been thinking about how my own cultural identity shifted after moving abroad for work—suddenly I was the 'foreigner' explaining holidays and food traditions that felt normal back home. Is it possible to genuinely preserve your original culture while adapting to a new one, or does every adaptation inevitably water down what you once were? I've seen friends who cling tightly to their roots and others who blend in completely, and both seem to lose something along the way. Maybe the real question is whether cultural identity is about the practices we keep or the sense of belonging we feel, but I'm not sure if those can be separated.
