Should online learning replace traditional classrooms?
I've been teaching university courses for six years, and the shift to online learning has made me question whether we're actually serving students. My intro classes saw a 28% drop in final exam scores last semester when we went fully remote, though attendance at live sessions jumped to 85%. But I also had a student who works nights at a hospital tell me she finally passed calculus because she could rewatch lectures at 2 a.m. Are we measuring the right outcomes when we compare online vs in-person?
