Does a book's meaning change with age experience, or is the text fixed?
I've been rereading the classics I skipped in school, and I'm struck by how different they feel now. Does a book's meaning change with age and experience, or is the text itself fixed? I used to think the author's intent was everything, but now I wonder if our own life context makes us co-creators of the story. What do you think—should we even bother with the 'intended' meaning, or is the reader's experience the real point?
