I've been reflecting on how much of our self-worth is tied to external validation—likes, promotions, grades. A friend recently lost her job and confessed she felt 'invisible' without the daily feedback loop of work emails and meetings. Is it possible to build a stable sense of identity that doesn't crumble when external markers disappear? I wonder if our attachment to validation is more cultural than innate, but I'm not sure.
