Can we ever achieve knowledge without relying on assumptions?
I've been reading about how much we rely on assumptions in everyday reasoning, and it makes me wonder: can we ever truly know anything without taking some basic beliefs for granted? For instance, when I trust that the sun will rise tomorrow, I'm not proving it—I'm just expecting it based on past experience. Philosophers like Descartes tried to doubt everything, but even he had to assume his own existence. So is it realistic to demand absolute certainty, or do we have to accept some level of faith in our knowledge?
