I've been reading about green chemistry principles lately, and one thing keeps bugging me: are we overcomplicating sustainability in chemistry education? We teach students dozens of metrics like atom economy and E-factor, but in my experience at a small pharma lab, the most effective change was simply replacing a toxic solvent with water in one step. Should we focus on teaching a few core, actionable habits instead of overwhelming learners with theoretical frameworks? I'm genuinely torn because advanced metrics have their place in industry, but for most undergraduate labs, they just add confusion.
