I've been on both sides of the hiring table, and I'm starting to wonder if soft skills are actually overrated in the modern workplace. I've hired engineers who were brilliant coders but couldn't communicate with the rest of the team, and I've hired people with average technical skills who could rally everyone around a project. In the end, the team players often outperformed the lone geniuses, but is that always the case? Can measurable hard skills ever compensate for a lack of emotional intelligence, or do we just say that because soft skills are harder to quantify?
