Are antidepressants a lifelong necessity or a temporary tool?
I've been on antidepressants for three years and recently tried tapering off with my doctor's help. The withdrawal was brutal—brain zaps, mood swings, insomnia—but I'm wondering if the long-term benefits of staying on them outweigh the side effects I've put up with. Mental health treatment often feels like a constant trade-off between stability and feeling like myself. Are we too quick to medicate, or do we actually underuse these tools because of stigma and fear? I'm genuinely torn between wanting to be drug-free and recognizing that the meds gave me my life back.
