Should we stop treating calories as the gold standard?
I've been counting calories and macros for six years, and the idea that a calorie is just a calorie still bugs me. A 200-calorie doughnut and 200 calories of grilled chicken affect your hunger, hormones, and energy very differently. Maybe we've been measuring the wrong unit all along, and metabolic response matters more than the number on the label. Should we stop treating calorie counts as the gold standard for nutrition?
