Do targeted ads help or manipulate consumers?
I've been analyzing my own buying habits recently, and targeted ads on social media seem to know what I want before I do. Last week I saw an ad for a camping chair right after I mentioned a trip to a friend in a private chat, and it made me wonder: do these targeted ads actually help us discover useful products, or are they just manipulating our desires? With all the data companies collect, is there a line where marketing stops being informative and becomes intrusive? I'm genuinely torn on whether the convenience of personalized recommendations outweighs the creepiness of being watched online. What do you think—should advertising be more regulated to protect consumer autonomy, or is this just the natural evolution of commerce?
