Do mental health labels hinder personal growth?
I've been a therapist for seven years, and I keep noticing that clients who label themselves as 'anxious' or 'depressed' often use those terms as a shield against taking responsibility for their choices. Is it possible that self-diagnosing with a mental health label actually hinders personal growth by giving people an excuse to avoid change? I've seen the opposite too, where a diagnosis brings relief and validation, so I'm genuinely torn on this one.
