Is streaming killing the album as an art form?
I've been a music teacher for fifteen years, and I'm starting to wonder if streaming services are actually killing the album as an art form. When I was younger, I'd buy a CD and listen to it front to back, letting the sequencing and transitions tell a story. Now, my students just shuffle playlists and skip tracks after ten seconds if they don't grab them immediately. Sure, playlists have introduced me to artists I'd never have found otherwise, and the convenience is undeniable. But does that convenience outweigh the loss of the cohesive listening experience? I'm genuinely torn on this one—what do you think?
