I've been a film buff for over a decade, attending film festivals regularly, and I'm starting to think that the Academy Awards are no longer the gold standard for cinematic excellence. When I saw 'Parasite' win Best Picture, I felt a glimmer of hope, but then the Oscars went right back to rewarding safe, conventional biopics over more daring works. The real problem is that voters are mostly older industry insiders who tend to reward movies that reinforce familiar storytelling, not movies that challenge us. Is it time we stop treating the Oscars as a reliable measure of what makes a great film?
