I teach AP Biology, and every year students ask why we still force them to memorize the entire Krebs cycle when they'll never use it again. Is that memorization really building critical thinking, or are we just stuck in tradition? I've seen students who can ace multiple-choice tests but struggle to design a simple experiment, which makes me wonder if we're measuring the wrong skills. Should the goal of high school science be to produce future scientists or scientifically literate citizens who can make informed decisions about health and policy?
