Should you mix ryokans and hotels on a Japan trip?
I'm planning a two-week trip to Japan next spring, and I keep going back and forth between staying in traditional ryokans versus modern hotels in the cities. The ryokan experience sounds amazing for the culture and onsen access, but the price per night is roughly double what I'd pay for a decent business hotel, and I'm not sure if the slower pace would get boring after a few days. Have you travelers found that mixing both options gives the best balance, or does committing fully to one style make the trip more cohesive?
