I grew up learning history as a list of names and dates, but now that I'm older I realize most of what we're taught depends heavily on who wrote the textbook. Should a country's official history curriculum prioritize national pride over objective facts? I've seen how Japanese and Chinese textbooks tell completely different stories about WWII, and both sides claim theirs is the accurate one. If we're honest, every nation cherry-picks events to some degree, so maybe teaching multiple perspectives is the only way to approach the truth. But then again, too much ambiguity can leave students without a solid foundation to build on.
