Is unequal domestic work really a free choice?
I grew up in a household where my mother handled all cooking and cleaning while my father worked overtime, and I never questioned it until my sister started earning more than her husband. Gender equality looks great on paper, but when I look at real couples, the one who earns less still ends up doing more unpaid domestic work, regardless of gender. Is it fair to call that a choice when social pressure makes the alternative feel so costly?
