I coach a local youth soccer team, and last month we lost three games straight. Parents started blaming the referees, but when I watched the footage, our passing accuracy was only 61% compared to the winners' 78%. Is poor officiating in sports really the main reason teams lose, or are we just overlooking our own mistakes? I'm not sure because bad calls do happen, but focusing on them seems to distract from the actual skill gaps we could fix at practice.
