Human rights are universal by definition, and I think that includes economic and social rights like housing and healthcare, not just civil liberties. But many Western governments treat human rights as mainly political—freedom of speech, fair trials—while downplaying the right to an adequate standard of living. Isn't that a convenient way to avoid responsibility for inequality at home?
