Is history ever truly objective, or just the winners' story?
How much of what we call history is shaped by the winners' narratives rather than objective facts? I grew up in a country where school textbooks emphasized certain battles and heroes while omitting others entirely, and only later did I realize how selective that memory was. Even when historians try to be unbiased, they rely on documents that often come from the powerful, and our own biases filter everything we read. Can we ever truly separate historical fact from interpretation, or is every history book just a story told from a particular angle?
