History textbooks in schools tend to present a single, sanitized narrative, but I think that does more harm than good. In my own experience, learning about controversial events like the Vietnam War or colonial rule only became meaningful when I read multiple perspectives, including voices from the losing side. A balanced approach might be messier, but it teaches critical thinking instead of memorization. Shouldn't we question whether a single official story is ever fair or accurate?
