Should schools teach the full, ugly truth of history?
History classes in high school often skip over the uncomfortable parts of our past, like the forced relocation of Native Americans or the internment of Japanese citizens during WWII. I learned about these events only when I stumbled upon a documentary in college, and it made me question everything I was taught. Should we sanitize history to protect students' feelings, or is it our duty to present the full, ugly truth? Sugar-coating the past does a disservice to the victims and leaves us unprepared to recognize similar injustices today.
