History books should focus more on ordinary people instead of kings and generals. My high school course spent six weeks on Napoleon but barely mentioned how the French Revolution changed daily life for peasants. I get that big names make neat narratives, but when we ignore the masses, we end up with a distorted view of cause and effect. Don't we miss the true picture when we celebrate only the victorious few?
