Does modern emphasis on romantic love doom marriages?
Having watched three of my closest friends divorce within two years of their wedding, each citing irreconcilable differences, I wonder if the modern emphasis on romantic love as the sole foundation of marriage is setting couples up to fail. We expect one person to be our best friend, therapist, and passion, all while careers and kids pull us apart. Maybe arranged marriages, which focus on practical compatibility, create more stable unions than our Western ideals.
