Government-funded rural broadband is often dismissed as too costly, but I've seen how the lack of reliable internet keeps small towns from accessing telemedicine and online education. The real question is whether we can afford to leave millions behind just because the upfront investment is high. Universal connectivity should be treated like electricity or roads—essential infrastructure, not a luxury. Unless private companies miraculously start serving unprofitable areas, public funding seems the only viable path.
