Gentrification often gets blamed for pushing out longtime residents, but I've seen it bring new life to dying neighborhoods — the bakery on my corner was abandoned for a decade until new development attracted a coffee shop and a grocery store. The problem isn't change itself, it's the lack of affordable housing policies that protect the people who made the area vibrant in the first place. If we just oppose all development, we end up with blight and nothing improves.
