English is taking over as the global lingua franca, but I think that's a loss, not a win. When a language dies, it takes an entire way of seeing the world with it, and we're losing that diversity at an alarming rate. I've seen it happen in my own community, where the younger generation prefers English over their mother tongue, and the elders feel disconnected. Can we really call this progress if it means cultural erasure?
