Electric vehicles get praised as the future of transport, but our current charging infrastructure can't keep up with the promise. I drove my Tesla from San Francisco to Los Angeles last month and had to plan every stop around available Superchargers, some of which were broken or occupied. Even in a wealthy state like California, rural areas have almost no public fast charging at all. Until we solve the grid and charging problem nationwide, EVs remain a rich person's second car rather than a true replacement for gasoline vehicles. So the question is: are EVs really ready to replace combustion engines for the average driver?
