Electric vehicles are often praised as the cleaner future, but the full lifecycle emissions—from battery mining to electricity generation—can sometimes rival or even exceed those of efficient gasoline cars. I've seen studies showing that in coal-heavy grids, an EV driven for 100,000 miles may produce emissions comparable to a 40 mpg hybrid. Does the promise of zero tailpipe emissions justify the environmental cost of production and the current grid dependency? For me, the answer isn't a simple yes, and it makes me question whether we're rushing toward a solution that isn't as green as marketed.
